BASF Kids’ Lab a big hit with Delhi kids with 1800+ attending; the program reaches 6000+ beneficiaries between 2023-25

New Delhi, India – February 05, 2025: In a bid to inspire the next generation of climate champions, BASF Kids' Lab, a global chemistry education initiative by BASF, was recently hosted at IIT Delhi campus in collaboration with Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India; Indian Institute of Technology Delhi; Deshbandhu College; Delhi University and Delhi Board of School Education. Over 1800+ children from across New Delhi participated in the 10-day program, which focused on climate change and sustainability. This takes the total number of student beneficiaries of the program, hosted in 2023-25 in Navi Mumbai, Mangalore, Bengaluru and now New Delhi, to more than 6000.

The visiting children, all students from underprivileged backgrounds going to govt schools, were guided by mentors, students from Deshbandhu College, trained by BASF in the origin and impact of climate change, through innovative models and experiments. The experiments aim to exemplify the impact of climate change and mitigating it with the help of chemistry. “I find the science behind climate change interesting – it makes me want to be a scientist,” declared 7th grade student Chanchal. Her sentiments were echoed by many more attending children.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr Sapna Poti, Director, Strategic Alliances, Office of Principal Scientific Adviser (PSI) to the Government of India said: "The future of our planet depends on the actions of today's children. Initiatives like BASF Kids' Lab are crucial in empowering them with the knowledge and skills to create a sustainable future."

Alexander Gerding, Managing Director, BASF India and Head of BASF Group Companies in India, added, "We're committed to fostering a culture of sustainability and environmental stewardship among children. The BASF Kids' Lab program is a key part of this effort, and we're thrilled to see the impact it's having in India."

Professor Tapan K Gandhi, Cadence Chair Professor of AI, IIT Delhi, is one of the key supporters of the program, who enabled hosting of Kids’ Lab at IIT Delhi Campus. He noted, "Industry-academia collaborations like this one are essential in promoting STEM education and sustainability. We're glad to partner with BASF to inspire the next generation of leaders and innovators." The program is part of BASF's global efforts to promote science education and
sustainability and will continue to reach out to children across India in the coming months.
