BASF Group Of Companies In Malaysia

BASF Services (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of BASF SE, provides infrastructure and support services to BASF sites in Malaysia. The company was incorporated in 1998 with the main objective of acquiring a land in Gebeng Industrial Park, Kuantan for the construction and operation of chemical plants which comprises the joint-venture with PETRONAS, other partners, and the companies that operate on a stand-alone basis. BASF Services (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd’s aim is to provide wholly-owned or co-owned infrastructure facilities while operating and maintaining such facilities through "Site Service Contract".

In 1997, BASF formed a joint venture with PETRONAS, the Malaysian state-owned oil and gas company. Through BASF PETRONAS Chemicals Sdn Bhd, BASF runs the only Verbund plant in ASEAN to capture the opportunities from the fast-growing region.

BASF PETRONAS Chemicals Sdn Bhd headquartered in Shah Alam, Selangor operates an integrated chemical complex situated in the Gebeng Industrial Zone, Kuantan, Pahang. The company is currently building a RM1.5 billion (€356 million) Integrated Aroma Ingredients facility to manufacture citral, citronellol and L-Menthol and it is expected to be operational in 2016. The range of chemicals produced by BASF PETRONAS Chemicals meet the growing demand in various industries including fabric, plastics, adhesives, lacquers, dyestuff, automobile and industrial coatings, paper, diapers, water treatment, textile and leather.

Toray BASF PBT Resin Sdn Bhd is a 50:50 joint venture between BASF SE and Toray Industries Inc. of Japan. The two companies partnered to build and operate a world-scale Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT) plant in Kuantan, Malaysia.

The PBT plant has an annual capacity of 60,000 metric tons, and is operated using the most advanced polymerization technology from Toray, while the raw material, butanediol (BDO), is procured from BASF’s subsidiary BASF PETRONAS Chemicals, which is located next to the plant.
