EBITDA before special items at level of prior-year quarter; outlook 2024 unchanged

“Overall, the development of EBITDA before special items in the second quarter of 2024 was in line with our expectations and the analyst consensus. We saw a continuation of the dynamics of the first quarter, marked by positive volume momentum across most of our businesses. There was still pressure on prices,” said Dr. Markus Kamieth, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE, when presenting the figures for the second quarter of 2024 together with Chief Financial Officer Dr. Dirk Elvermann.

The groundbreaking PACIFIC app, which enables the exchange of Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) data of BASF products, is now available. Developed in collaboration with CircularTree, PACIFIC is now available in the Catena-X Automotive Ecosystem in the Cofinity-X App Store.

PCF app PACIFIC launched on Cofinity-X

The PACIFIC app, a solution for the exchange of Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) data of BASF products, is now available in the Catena-X Automotive Ecosystem in the Cofinity-X App Store. BASF customers can from now on register for the application. PACIFIC is a joint development of BASF and CircularTree.

Markus Dinslacken assumes new position at BASF’s Coatings division

Münster. Markus Dinslacken, former Chief Human Resources Officer, Fresenius Kabi AG, Bad Homburg, will take over the management of the Global People & Culture Coatings unit and the position of Managing Director at BASF Coatings GmbH on September 1. BASF Coatings has approximately 11,600 employees at 70 sites worldwide.
White biotechnology – also known as industrial biotechnology – uses microorganisms and enzymes to produce chemical and biochemical products. The product portfolio of white biotechnology is manifold and comprises basic chemicals, monomers, and many specialty chemicals like vitamins, food and feed supplements, as well as pharmaceutical and agricultural intermediates. Biotechnological processes are often more efficient than classical chemical production and require less raw materials and energy. Usually, they are based on renewable raw material and exhibit a beneficial carbon footprint. Some products like enzymes or complicated actives are only accessible via white biotechnology and cannot be manufactured by chemical synthesis. BASF and the University of Graz develop fundamentally new computer-assisted model to optimize efficiency of biocatalytic production processes

Numerous factors influence the efficiency of the enzymes used to produce chemicals. Finding the optimal reaction conditions therefore requires significant time and resources. Researchers from BASF, the Austrian Research Centre of Industrial Biotechnology (acib) and the University of Graz in Austria have co-developed a fundamentally new computer-assisted model that can improve enzyme performance and enable new biocatalytic production processes to be scaled up faster from the lab to industrial manufacturing.

BASF backs Panasonic’s launch of the first luminaire meeting the highest performance level in China

Panasonic, one of the world's leading luminaire manufacturers, incorporates BASF's optical film NovaFlex GlareControl for its new study luminaire "SHIYUE". The innovative film offers excellent anti-glare properties, allowing the product to meet the highest performance level of a new standard set by the China Quality Certification Center. This standard defines the performance requirements for all moveable luminaires for writing and reading application. The highest performance level, AAAAA, could only be met by using BASF’s solution for glare reduction.
