Shanghai, China – April 24, 2018 – A new quartet of “Created in China” co-creation projects reveal the power of Chinese design when combined with advanced BASF materials. The projects, including a premium concept motorcycle, high-performance sports surface, stretchable innerwear fashion, and the PlasCobot – an advanced collaborative robot – take advantage of 13 of the latest applications of BASF materials. The projects have been developed together with local Chinese brands and designers to meet the increasingly sophisticated needs of today’s China.

“By launching these collaboration projects, we are demonstrating how premium products for high quality of life can be co-created with innovative materials from BASF,” said Stephan Kothrade, President Functions Asia Pacific, President and Chairman Greater China, BASF. “At CHINAPLAS 2018, we show how the on-the-ground research and development competencies of BASF, including our Innovation Campus Shanghai and our Design Center Asia Pacific, produce results. With our innovation and design expertise, combined with local production, we will help bring China’s design concepts to life – and to the world.”

The four collaboration projects mirror fundamental aspects of life: how we move, work, dress and play. In each area, BASF solutions and competencies help to turn concepts into reality and inspire innovations. The projects were featured on-site at CHINAPLAS 2018 today in a unique concept fashion show created by Enchi Shen, Brand Director of 7Crash and a renowned fashion designer.

  • CFMOTO and BASF are introducing a concept motorcycle based on CFMOTO’s prestigious state guest escort and police motorcycle and made with BASF’s material solutions in nine different applications and assemblies. In the lamp bezel application and switching assembly, for instance, BASF’s material solution enables light translucent effect which enhances the sophisticated design appearance of the motorcycle. The polyurethane Spray Skin technology Elastoskin® also provides design flexibility in multi-color and surface texture and comfortable and durable solution for motorcycle saddle.
  • Together with Three Gun and Enchi Shen, BASF is introducing innerwear featuring fiber made with Elastollan® TPU, a new stretchable material solution offering great comfort for every outfit and the versatility for freedom of design by designers and manufacturers. Its low heat setting temperature enables fabrics to dry quickly and also saves energy in its production. The innerwear is showcased during the fashion show, along with other outfits developed in collaboration with Enchi Shen.
  • BASF’s solutions in both the cover and skeleton of SIASUN Robot’s next-generation collaborative robot, or “PlasCobot”, enable greater mobility, energy efficiency, design freedom and safety in tandem with the growing need for flexible manufacturing. The new PlasCobot also shows how smaller and more modular cobots can maneuver well in tight spaces. As plastics are moldable, material usage can be optimized to reduce the cobot’s size further.
  • DuBaiCheng Environmental Protection Engineering Co., Ltd (DBC) and BASF are introducing the world’s first sports surfaces made with Infinergy® SP, a special grade of expanded thermoplastic polyurethane (E-TPU). Applied on a part of the fashion runway, the application provides comfort and a spring in the models’ steps during the fashion show.
