Development engineers Rie Kaneko and Torsten Hensel discuss the structure of the lightweight comfort seat using a cross-section model. By means of the e-textile technology used, the seat heating can be directly embedded in the textile and is thus close to the body. Elastoflex® flexible foams in the sitting areas save up to 20 percent weight and at the same time provide ergonomic advantages by means of various hardness zones.

Highly complex tasks in research and development cannot be solved today simply by trial and error. Model-based and statistical experiment planning help to conduct the right experiments at the lowest possible cost. This requires your expertise.

As a mathematician or bio-IT specialist in research and development you will work alongside chemists, biologists, physicists and engineers on specific research projects. With the aid of molecular modeling, for example you will create structure-characteristic relationships to develop new high-performance polymers. Or you will support researchers with scientific computing by optimizing lab experiments with mathematical models.

 

As a mathematician or bio-informatics specialist with a PhD you have various options for entering in research. You could choose a classical direct entry in a research group at BASF or come to us for a limited period of time as a post-doc.

You will receive on-the-job training in a committed, competent team. Interdisciplinary work is our daily routine and you will work with chemists, biologists, physicists and engineers on specific research projects.

You are a mathematician, bio-informatics specialist or have studied natural sciences with IT and successfully completed your studies with a PhD.

You will normally start in one of our three global research areas:

 

In Advanced Materials & Systems Research we create solutions with new functional materials and systems for the automotive, construction, electronics, detergent and cleaning agents, water and wind industries.

In Process Research & Chemical Engineering we develop new and improve existing processes for the manufacture of base chemicals, intermediates and fine chemicals. We are also seeking alternatives to the raw material of crude oil and we are working on energy conversion and storage.

In Bioscience Research we seek new ways of increasing agricultural productivity and meeting the need for healthy food using biotechnological methods as well as research in new crop protection products, making sure our solutions meet the highest standards in human and environmental safety.

 

You can expect demanding tasks in research with a high level of responsibility, or in analytics, application technology or patents. From the very start you will work on defined projects.

Your tasks will also include project management and registering patents.

A key element is the intensive cooperation with internal partners from research and development, marketing and production in interdisciplinary and inter-cultural teams.
