Hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS)

Tinuvin® and Lignostab® light stabilizers for aqueous and solvent-based applications

The demand for paints and coatings that cover ever greater surfaces per liter without compromising long-term protection continues to rise. Avoiding light- or heat-induced degradation of coatings for extended periods involves mastering a complex array of challenges. As a pioneer in this special area of coatings technology, BASF draws on decades of experience and the broadest, most diverse portfolio of light stabilizers in our industry. The range can be roughly divided into two main technologies: filters that block ultraviolet radiation and scavengers that “hunt down” and eliminate free radicals within the coating. As diverse as our solutions are, they all serve to enable coatings that protect, beautify and extend the service life of UV-sensitive substrates.

Speak with our formulation and performance experts at BASF to find the ideal light stabilizers for your formulations. We are equipped with broad application knowledge – from automotive and industrial coatings to wood, plastic and glass applications – and will work with you to co-innovate solutions that place your products in a class of their own.

Featured hindered amine light stabilizers for solvent-based systems

Irgastab UV 22
A highly efficient in-can stabilizer inhibiting gelling of radically curing UV/EB inks and UV/EB overprint varnishes already at low dosage levels.
Tinuvin 123
Non-basic HALS for acid catalyzed and oxidative curing coatings; improves yellowing resistance in direct-fired gas ovens
Tinuvin 152
Is especially designed for coatings over plastic substrates and meet high performance and durability requirements of all exterior solvent-based automotive and industrial coating applications where basic HALS fail or where compatibility or migration are an issue.
Tinuvin 249
A liquid non-basic HALS for coatings. It is designed to meet the high performance and durability requirements of all solvent-based automotive, industrial and decorative coatings where other HALS fail either related to their basicity or for compatibility reasons.
Tinuvin 292
Multi-purpose basic HALS for various applications, use in water-borne coatings may require addition of cosolvents, may interact with sensitive dispersion binders
Tinuvin 292 HP
Is designed to meet high performance and durability requirements of solvent-based exterior coatings and other color sensitive applications including radiation-curable systems (UV, electron beam).
Tinuvin 622 SF
Is a solid oligomeric low-basic HALS developed for coatings, adhesives and sealants.
Tinuvin 770 DF
A solid basic hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) developed for coating, adhesive and sealant applications.
