Concrete Preservation Institute at Alcatraz
A Strong Partnership: The Concrete Preservation Institute and BASF

The Field School began as a summer program for college students in 2010, with BASF as the founding sponsor, providing materials, financial support and technical training. The Field School directors formalized the program in 2013 as CPI, a partnership with the National Park Service. The program has expanded to three Field School sessions each year, focused on military veterans and students, and was granted 501(c)3 nonprofit educational foundation status in 2014.
As an industry leader, the BASF team brings invaluable practical know-how to the Field School and the students gain from the guidance of BASF restoration experts. Field School participants also use BASF’s Master Builders Solutions materials to restore the iconic structures.
