Climate protection is a central component of the BASF strategy. For many years, the company has been continuously reducing its CO2 emissions. For further significant reduction innovative processes, such as the synthesis gas direct conversion for the synthesis of olefins, our research is developing. Olefins are intermediate substances, for the production of cleaning materials, aroma chemicals or superabsorbents. New process technologies and catalysts can reduce the carbon footprint of olefin production by up to 50 percent.Lab Team Leader Sabine Schuster and chemical laboratory technician Oliver Secosan are changing the catalysts in the new synthesis gas direct conversion plant.

Extended Ultrason® P portfolio by BASF enables compliant re-qualification of food‑contact articles affected by EU Regulation 2024/3190

For high-temperature applications in contact with food, BASF is now offering a portfolio of polyphenlysulfone (PPSU) grades which is not based on Bisphenol S (BPS) and Bisphenol A (BPA).

The acetylene plant at the Ludwigshafen Verbund site serves as a starting point for producing the new rPCF variants of BDO, THF, PolyTHF® and NMP.

BASF’s Intermediates division has introduced new product variants with a reduced product carbon footprint (rPCF) for butanediol (BDO), tetrahydrofuran (THF), polytetrahydrofuran (PolyTHF^®), and N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) produced at its Verbund site in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
