BASF to sell Brazilian decorative paints business to Sherwin-Williams

BASF and Sherwin-Williams have signed an agreement on the sale of the Brazilian decorative paints business, which is part of BASF’s Coatings division. The purchase price on a cash and debt-free basis is $1.15 billion. The transaction is structured as a share deal and includes the production sites in Demarchi and Jaboatão, related contracts, the Suvinil and Glasu! brands, and the around 1,000 employees. The divestiture is expected to close in the second half of 2025, subject to the approval of the relevant competition authorities.
Chemetall has switched its electricity supply for its production site Blackman Township in Jackson County, Michigan, USA, to 100% renewable electricity.

Chemetall runs its Blackman Township production facility in the USA entirely on renewable electricity

The Surface Treatment global business unit of BASF’s Coatings division, operating under the Chemetall brand, has switched its electricity supply for its production site Blackman Township in Jackson County, Michigan, USA, to 100% renewable electricity*. The energy provided by the partner BASF Renewable Energy is generated by a subset of renewable resources, including solar and wind, resulting in an approximate reduction of 950 tons of CO2 emissions** in 2025.

BASF and its partners publish 2024 results of the world’s first sustainable castor bean program, Pragati

Pragati, the world’s first sustainable castor bean program, completed eight years of operation in the 2023/2024 season. More than 8,000 farmers are now certified under the program, and individual farmer yields have increased significantly. The program has grown to more than 9,000 hectares of mostly semi-arid land under the SuCCESS® sustainability code.
Products from Greenville, such as E-Coats for OEM coatings, are produced using renewable energy, thereby reducing the carbon footprint for customers.

BASF Coatings implements 100% renewable electricity at key sites in North America

BASF’s Coatings division has successfully transitioned to 100% renewable electricity at its North American sites in Greenville, Ohio, and Blackman Township in Jackson County, Michigan, effective January 2025. The switch to renewable electricity will bring a significant reduction of more than 11,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually, benefiting both BASF Coatings’ operations and customers.

BASF introduces first superabsorbent polymer with product carbon footprint of zero

BASF is taking the next step in expanding its sustainable portfolio by offering HySorb® B 6610 ZeroPCF, the first polyacrylate-based superabsorbent polymer (SAP) marketed with a product carbon footprint1 (PCF) of zero for the hygiene industry. The zero PCF is achieved by utilizing renewable energy in addition to the established biomass balance approach (BMB) in the production process at the Antwerp Verbund site. HySorb® B 6610 ZeroPCF is ISCC PLUS-certified.
