BASF presents innovative concepts with plant sterols and omega-3 for optimizing health
- BASF Newtrition® presents innovative, science-based prototypes to meet growing consumer health needs
- International experts to present latest findings at BASF scientific seminars
- BASF at Fi Asia: September 13-15, 2017, hall 102, booth Q1, Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC), Bangkok
Bangkok, Thailand – September 13, 2017 – BASF is showcasing new, relevant nutritional solutions for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), at Fi Asia from September 13 - 15 in Bangkok, Thailand. In addition, international key opinion leaders will share new insights and findings on plant sterols and omega-3s during two BASF seminars at Fi Asia.
NCDs are on the rise all over the world, accounting for 70 percent of all deaths globally, equivalent to 40 million people each year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The health landscape remains challenging due to global trends such as urbanization, an aging population and a growing middle class.
“Cardiovascular diseases are the number one NCD and are an area of high concern for consumers and our customers alike. Both plant sterols and omega-3s have long-standing science demonstrating their efficacy in reducing risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. In addition, the omega-3s also have other benefits including prevention of cognitive decline and inflammation reduction,” said Haibo Tian, Vice-Director, BASF Human Nutrition, Asia Pacific. “Our goal is always to deliver the right nutrients to the right people at the right time, and these two ingredients have solid foundations for us to innovate upon.”
Some of the innovative health concepts that visitors will have the opportunity to sample include:
- High-EPA, high-DHA omega-3 mini capsules – two prototypes produced with excellent high-concentrate omega-3s that have higher amounts of EPA/DHA and less unwanted fats, delivered in half the size of a conventional capsule.
- Hearty-licious chocolate – fortified with plant sterols that have been shown in many clinical studies to lower LDL-cholesterol by up to 15 percent, thus reducing cardiovascular risks.
In addition, visitors can also expect to see these new concepts at the BASF Newtrition® booth:
- Antioxidant jelly – an enjoyable and tasty supplement in jelly format containing BASF’s algal source natural carotenoid, Dunaliella carotenoids. Sourced from open-air lagoons in Australia, it provides photo-protective effects by stopping free radicals before they can trigger sunburn.
- Eye bright beverage – refreshing and delicious drink with lutein ester to improve eye health by reducing the effects of damaging blue light from prolonged exposure to digital devices.
To further reinforce the robust scientific foundation that Newtrition® is based upon, two well-known international key opinion leaders have also been invited to share new insights and findings relating to plant sterols and omega-3s:
- Recent developments in plant sterol science by Dr. Peter Jones, Director of the Richardson Centre for Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals, University of Manitoba, Canada. Session to take place on September 13 (14:30 – 15:00) at hall 101, seminar room 5.
- EPA and DHA Omega-3s for vitality by Dr. Aldo Bernasconi, Director of Information and Research, Global Organisation for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED). Session to take place on September 14 (13:45 – 14:15) at hall 101, seminar room 5.
