BASF Canada strengthens its Responsible Care commitment by partnering with Certified Aboriginal Business Skyline Concrete

MISSISSAUGA, ON, February 26th 2020 – BASF addresses its engagement with Indigenous Communities in Canada by awarding site improvement projects at its Blackie, Alberta, manufacturing site to Skyline Concrete, a specialized commercial and industrial construction firm and member of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business. The projects include putting recessed production weight scales into the floor of the production building and installing a concrete walkway from the site’s warehouse to the truck loading area.

This project coincides with The Chemical Industry Association of Canada (CIAC)’s – of which BASF is a member –  most recent update of its United Nations-recognized Responsible Care® Codes for 2020 to include engaging with Indigenous communities through proactive and formal processes.

“BASF is committed to the principles of Responsible Care since 1992. While it is a voluntary initiative of the chemical industry for BASF it constitutes a central element of our sustainable business management,” said Amy Sandhu, Manager Sustainability and Government Relations, BASF Canada.

Moreover, this project further reinforces BASF’s focus on safety by eliminating tripping hazards and improving operational efficiencies. In the foreseeable future, the Aboriginal owned and managed company Skyline Concrete will lay a concrete walkway from BASF’s Blackie warehouse to its truck loading pad. This will improve walking and working surfaces by eliminating uneven gravel paths throughout all the seasons.
