Sustainability
In dialog with politics
Becoming involved in political decision making processes is an important part of entrepreneurial activity.
We therefore play an active role in industrial associations and participate in public events and political debates.
Our aim is to help in creating political framework conditions for the responsible use of nanotechnology.

BMU expert dialog
At the recommendation of the Nanocommission, the BMU (Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety) is establishing four expert dialogs on various topics of nanotechnology in which BASF is also participating. Representatives of different stakeholder groups and authorities discuss the topics of risk management, traceability, sustainability and potentials of nanomaterials and nanoproducts.

Science Policy Breakfast in Brussels
Science Policy Breakfast is an initiative of MEP Bill Newton Dunn. The intention is to give politicians the opportunity to gain insights from scientists into current topics of research and development. The aim of this series of events, in which BASF is participating, is to support scientifically well-founded political decisions. At the event "Small size big impact – nanotech in society explained," Prof. Terry Willkens of the NanoManufacturing Institute of Leeds University outlined the potentials of nanotechnology and answered questions about safety.
BASF discussion event on nano & REACH
Does the existing EU chemicals regulations (REACH) have to be changed to include nanomaterials? Opinions on this topic diverge among the various interest groups. At BASF's initiative, therefore, on August 31, 2011 a discussion session was held at Baden-Württemberg state representation in Brussels. The aim was to give the various stakeholders an opportunity to present and discuss their standpoints.
