Go for a different kind of career at BASF.

Do you like to deal with scientific-technical issues and at the same time love playing with words? Do you like to approach people and are future-oriented? Then connect with us through START IN Global IP.

We are a globally active, international team of scientists and engineers ensuring intelligent, sustainable solutions for BASF.

Our trainee program offers the perfect START IN the world of BASF. From the start you will take on exciting tasks, diverse assignments, and project responsibility that will focus on your future target position.

For START IN Global IP we are looking for talent and personalities with above-average grades in a science or chemical engineering course leading to a PhD, Master's or Bachelor's. We require very good German and English language skills; other languages are desirable. Previous experience in commercial legal protection, for example key lectures or internships, is also of an advantage. We place particular value on:

  • Creativity and the ability for open dialogue
  • Analytical thinking and entrepreneurial action
  • Commitment and team spirit
  • International experience

During the program we support you for a period of three years to give you the basic knowledge to enable you to work independently in the patent department. To achieve this we support you individually.

The focus areas are the global patent issuing process, producing patent registrations, objections and complaint processes with the European Patent Office, and patent assessments. You will work from the very start on real cases. After your first assignment, you will take on responsibility for your own technology and deepen your basic knowledge. At the same time you will learn to write and negotiate contracts.

For the first eighteen months you will be supported by a trainer from our department for theoretical and practical training. As it is also important for us that you understand BASF as a whole, a mentor from a different BASF unit will also be at your side. You will also work and watch in another department and have the opportunity to work on Global Intellectual Property at another European site.

Our joint objective is that you successfully complete the European Suitability Test.

The program is rounded off by a study trip to the USA.
