North West schools compete in Chemquiz 2015

Nearly 150 young chemists from schools around Manchester were at the John Dalton building at Manchester Metropolitan University yesterday (June 25th) to compete in Chemquiz 2015.
This annual event has been organised by the education sub-committee of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Manchester and District Section since 1987.
This year thirty-seven schools from Cheshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester, took part in chemical quizzes, laboratory exercises and multimedia competitions sponsored by BASF, the chemical company.
After intense, but friendly competition, the overall winners were Withington Girls’ School. Georgina Findlay, Imogen Breeze, Namitha Aravind and Diya Salahudin will go on to represent the region in next year’s RSC Top of the Bench competition.
The runners-up were Bolton School (Boys' Division), represented by Ross Pursey, Matthew Schaffel, James Leese-Weller and Ruairi McCabe.
Third place went to the Cheadle Hulme School team of Jack Nolan, Cate Howe, Oscar Jones and Rachel Prince.
The winners of the winners of the Kathryn Oliver Leonard Teamwork Award were Lana Walker, Husna Qureshi, Grace Nuttall, and Catalina David from Flixton Girls' School.
