Chemquiz 2018
Teams of young chemists from 32 schools around Manchester were at the John Dalton building at Manchester Metropolitan University today (June 21st) to compete in Chemquiz 2018.
This annual event has been organised by the education sub-committee of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Manchester and District Section since 1987.
Teams of four students from schools in Cheshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester, took part in chemical quizzes, laboratory exercises and multimedia competitions sponsored by the chemical company BASF plc, which is based in Cheadle.
The overall winners were Bolton School Girls Division. Amaani Adam, Deja Reece, Yasmin Rose, and Nabilah Thagia will go on to represent the region in next year’s RSC Top of the Bench competition.
The runners-up were Manchester Grammar School, represented by Alex Buckley, Dipyaman Banerjee, Shashuat Swarup, and Ben Cole.
Third were Bolton School Boys Division, who won the competition in 2017 and 2016 and were also runners-up in 2015. This year's team was Ben Hunt, Jude Ashcroft, Laurence Britton and Mihir Patel.
The winners of the Kathryn Oliver Leonard Teamwork Award were Zaraa Dudha, Olivia Waugh, Isobel Rose and Selkie Huk from Flixton Girls School.
