- Global leader in manufacturing highly-concentrated Omega 3 fatty acids celebrates 10 years as BASF
- MSP Alasdair Allan welcomed to BASF Pharma (Callanish) Ltd
The team at BASF Pharma (Callanish) Ltd welcomed MSP Alasdair Allan to site this week, in the year they are celebrating ten years as BASF. The production and research facility at Breasclete, Isle of Lewis was acquired by BASF in 2012 and has enjoyed substantial investment in recent years. It is a global leader in manufacturing highly-concentrated omega-3 fatty acids, for pharmaceutical, clinical nutrition and general nutritional applications.
Making a difference to the local community
Following a tour of the facility, Alasdair Allan MSP commented, “It has been great visiting BASF Pharma (Callanish) Ltd today, witnessing first-hand how the site has grown over the last ten years and the investment it has brought into the Isle of Lewis. BASF is making a real and positive difference to the local community, as an employer and as a neighbour. This high-tech, low-carbon facility is something we can be very proud of.”
Deputy Site Manager Annie Macleod said, “As market demand has grown so has the investment in our site. We have a highly skilled and innovative workforce and now employ 80 people here at BASF.
We are proud to show Alasdair Allan around our site today and have welcomed discussions on a variety of topics including our continuing success as a local employer, our work to support science in the community and our plans for future developments.”
Transitioning to net zero CO2 emissions
Annie continues, “Sustainability is a focus in all we do here at our Callanish site and we have ambitious plans to further reduce our carbon footprint as we look to transition to net zero CO2 emissions.”
The site will be contributing to BASF Group's sustainability goals. BASF has committed to reducing their absolute CO2 emissions by 25% by 2030 compared to 2018. The group has also announced it will achieve net zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
