BASF commences its smart Verbund project in Zhanjiang, China

  • BASF’s largest investment for the third-largest BASF site globally
  • New highly-integrated BASF site with a comprehensive smart manufacturing concept based on cutting-edge technologies
  • The step-by-step project includes petrochemicals plants as the heart of the well-established Verbund system as well as plants for more consumer-oriented products and solutions
  • A steamcracker with a planned capacity of 1 million metric tons of ethylene per year forms the starting point of the value chains
  • The site with an area of around 9 km² will support customers in multiple industries
  • Completion of first plants planned by 2026 at the latest

BASF commences its smart Verbund project in Zhanjiang, China

  • Milestone for BASF’s US$10 billion investment project in China
  • World-class smart Verbund site with latest technologies and highest safety and sustainability standards
  • First plants to produce engineering plastics and TPU serving a range of key industries

BASF to build engineering plastics and thermoplastic polyurethanes plants at new Verbund site

  • The new plants, that will be the first to come onstream at the site, will utilize automated packaging, high-tech control systems, and automated guided vehicles
  • By 2022, the new engineering plastics compounding plant will supply an additional capacity of 60,000 metric tons per year of BASF engineering plastics compounds in China
  • General facilities for the Zhanjiang Verbund site will also be built

BASF and SINOPEC to further expand their Verbund site in Nanjing, China  

  • Production capacities to be expanded for several downstream chemical plants
  • The first tert-butyl acrylate plant outside of Germany using BASF technology to meet the growing demand for specialty chemicals in China
  • The expanded and new plants are planned to come on stream in 2023

Planned expansion of cooperation in China between BASF and SINOPEC  

  • Strengthening of the partnership in upstream and downstream chemical production in China
  • Expansion of production capacity at the existing integrated joint venture “Verbund” site of the BASF-YPC joint venture
  • Investment in the building of an additional steamcracker with a capacity of 1 million metric tons of ethylene per year
