Seoul, South Korea – December 5, 2023 – BASF is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Kids’ Lab program in Korea, with various chemistry experiments and attractions planned for aspiring young scientists. This year, a series of events will be held on December 5, 9 and 19 in Yeosu, Onsan, and Seoul.
Part of BASF’s global educational program, Kids’ Lab aims to stimulate interest in science and foster curiosity. It was first launched in 1997 at the company’s headquarters in Germany and today, the program is conducted in more than 45 countries around the world. In Korea, the inaugural event took place in Ulsan in 2003, and has been hosted annually ever since in different cities, including Seoul, Suwon, Yeosu, Ulsan, Gunsan, and Daejon, receiving positive feedback from many parents and children.
On December 5 and 19, Kids’ Lab will take place in Yeosu and Onsan, respectively, where major BASF sites are located. Both events will be open to 80 students from 3rd to 5th graders at Sora Elementary School, and more than 100 students from the 4th grade at Deoksin Elementary School, respectively, providing a unique experience to spark students’ interest in chemistry.
In addition, Kids’ Lab will be held at BASF Seoul office on December 9. Open to families of employees, the chemistry class setting provides a meaningful experience for elementary school children of BASF employees in Korea who work in the greater Seoul metropolitan region.
This year’s program will feature a variety of fun and creative chemistry experiments, including building a mini aquarium, making beaded ice cream, creating a hydrogen fuel cell, and making plastic keyrings. In addition, participants will also be entertained by the Science Magic Show, an interactive performance which infuses scientific and chemistry principles.
“Celebrating its 20th anniversary in Korea this year, the BASF Kids’ Lab initiative is our contribution to the society, and in particular to the education of children in the country. This unique program allows children across Korea to have a first-hand experience in chemistry. I am also pleased that our employees’ children have the opportunity as well understanding how their parents contribute to our purpose ‘creating chemistry for a sustainable future’," said Dr. Dschun Song, Managing Director of BASF Company Ltd., Korea.
