Contribute your expertise and conduct research at the world's leading chemical company.

Highly complex tasks in research and development cannot be solved today simply by trial and error. Model-based and statistical experiment planning help to conduct the right experiments at the lowest possible cost. This requires your expertise.

As a mathematician or bio-IT specialist in research and development you will work alongside chemists, biologists, physicists and engineers on specific research projects. With the aid of molecular modeling, for example you will create structure-characteristic relationships to develop new high-performance polymers. Or you will support researchers with scientific computing by optimizing lab experiments with mathematical models.

As a mathematician with a PhD and business experience you have the opportunity to join research directly as an expert - depending on your experience - with direct project or management responsibility. In various BASF departments we are looking for researchers with business experience, e.g. in application technology for component simulation.

Apply to one of our job postings or send us your speculative application.

We look forward to meeting you.

You will receive on-the-job training in a committed, competent team.

You are a mathematician, bio-informatian or have studied natural sciences with IT. You completed your studies with a doctorate and already have several years of business experience in the chemical industry.

You are open to new things and enjoy tackling academic and technical challenges which you approach purposefully and solve using creative ideas. You like to work in an interdisciplinary environment and know how to lead a team to achieve the best results. Project management has become a matter of course for you. You communicate confidently and authentically in German and English. You see travel as an opportunity to expand your linguistic and inter-cultural skills.

You will normally start in one of our three global research areas:

In Advanced Materials & Systems Research we create solutions with new functional materials and systems for the automotive, construction, electronics, detergent and cleaning agents, water and wind industries.

In Process Research & Chemical Engineering we develop new and improve existing processes for the manufacture of base chemicals, intermediates and fine chemicals. We are also seeking alternatives to the raw material of crude oil and we are working on energy conversion and storage.

In Bioscience Research we seek new ways of increasing agricultural productivity and meeting the need for healthy food using biotechnological methods as well as research in new crop protection products, making sure our solutions meet the highest standards in human and environmental safety.

You can expect demanding tasks in research and product development with a high level of responsibility, e.g. in analytics, application technology or patents. From the very start you will work on a specific research project.

Your tasks will also include project management with the regular economic assessment of the research project entrusted to you and registering patents.

A key element is the intensive cooperation with internal partners from research and development, marketing and production in interdisciplinary and intra-cultural teams. In addition, depending on the project, you will also support international research cooperation or lead a team of employees.

Here, you will find attractive conditions and excellent technical and inter-departmental development opportunities. In addition to the scientific expert career in research, you also have development opportunities in product and application technology, marketing, product management or production.

You will regularly discuss future career steps with your supervisor.

Numerous training options will support your career. These include close exchanges in the relevant specialist communities within and beyond BASF.
