Commitment in the Region

We want to make a difference! Through our active social engagement, we want to make the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region an even more attractive place to live. We think it is important to work with our partners at Ludwigshafen to create a vibrant community that thrives on openness, curiosity and active cooperation.

In addition to the many things we do ourselves, we provide donations and sponsorship to support projects led by partner organizations. As a company, we also encourage our staff members to engage as volunteers, so that they can get involved with partner organizations, actively shape their communities and thus strengthen the bonds between the company and the region.

Regional engagement

At Ludwigshafen, our social engagement is focused on two goals: Participation & Integration and Research & Discovery. As different as these two goals might at first seem, there’s one thing they have in common: They help us find answers to the challenges we face today and to the questions that matter for the future. Global engagement

As a founder member of the UN Global Compact, we focus our global social engagement strategy on helping the United Nations achieve its sustainable development objectives.
Beneath this overarching goal, various local objectives are formulated to address specific challenges in each region.

Culture and Arts

BASF has a long tradition of commitment to culture: The company has been involved in promoting arts and culture since 1921.

In-house concerts held at the BASF clubhouse, known as the Feierabendhaus, are a central part of this commitment. BASF’s involvement has intensified over the decades, adding new focal points. Music still plays a key role, but areas such as dance, fine arts, film and photography have now also gained importance.

Social

BASF is an active and responsible member of society. As such, we engage in a large number of social projects. The focus is on support for disadvantaged people, including but not exclusively those from immigrant or ethnic minority backgrounds.

Working with experienced partners, we provide donations in support of projects in a range of different areas. These include helping improving the transition from school to work, finding solutions to the problems of an aging society and improving the integration of refugees.

Sports and health

Sport is good for everyone’s health and personal development, as well as for strengthening social bonds. BASF engages in a large number of projects.

We support large events with thousands of participants and help small sports clubs to connect with the wider world. Our work helps children develop motor skills and promotes, among other things, a better balance between sports, schooling and work.
