Education is empowering – for both individuals and society

Education is an important part of our social engagement. Education is the key to personal success for all, and to the ability of our society to face the future.

Education is a key factor in overcoming the social challenges that confront us. Sustainable solutions call for smart thinkers. But education is more than just a means to an end. It is essential to integration and participation. As such, it contributes to both our regional objectives in equal measure.

By engaging in projects at every level – from day nursery to college – BASF works to enhance the educational landscape in the Rhine-Neckar region and stimulate curiosity and interest in the natural sciences.

Early childhood education

The foundations of a good education, good development and full participation in society are laid in the earliest years of a child’s life. This is why BASF actively engages with partners in the early learning sector. Under our Early Education Initiative, we have set up 17 projects at day nurseries and elementary schools. The topics range from language skills, social inclusion and quality management to resilience building, art lessons and science teaching. The German Commission for UNESCO is the patron of this initiative.

Young researchers in action

Every child is a researcher! Children are born curious, and we want to make a contribution to fostering that curiosity. Nothing does that better than independent research.

In Ludwigshafen, five Kids’ and Teens’ Labs offer programs for every age group from elementary school to high school seniors. Here, schoolchildren can learn with their heads, hearts and hands and experience the fascination of the natural sciences.

Online Experiments for young researchers

Research & Discovery – in a digitalized world, you can do it online. In our Virtual Lab, children – or anyone else who’s still a child at heart – can approach scientific problems through play and perform online experiments on a PC or laptop. The Virtual Lab can be used both at home or in the classroom, and is available in German and English.

Teacher training and classroom material

If you want to excite children and young people about science, the classroom is an important place to start. We offer training courses and classroom materials to help teaching staff at elementary and secondary schools to create high-quality science lessons with an emphasis on practical work.

An investment in the future: Support for gifted children

We promote educational opportunity for all, but we also want to spot promising young scientists and foster their talents from an early age. Among the things we do to achieve this aim is supporting science competitions for schoolchildren. BASF has long had a close association with “Jugend forscht”, Germany’s best-known national science contest, having sponsored the regional heats in Rhineland-Palatinate ever since the competition began.
