High elastic recovery and best adhesion in class acrylic sealant for durable and versatile surface application
Waterborne sealants are the new generation sustainable solutions in this market, but traditionally these technologies have limitations on certain performance. As a breakthrough technology brought by BASF to the waterborne sealant market, Acronal® 5036 can deliver a high elastic recovery in high movement joinery. It also supports super adhesion on dense substrates like ceramics and glass.
What to apply where?
In the world of sealant, it is critical to know “what-to-apply-where” as it helps to get the right performance needed in that application area with proper material and solution at best cost.
Take, for example, the acrylic sealant. General acrylic sealant, sometimes also called as acrylic caulk or gap filler is sufficient to be used in sealing air gaps around window and door frames. It is odourless and easily paintable, making it a preferred choice for sealing household joints (for example stairs, skirting boards, and floorboards).
However, when specific application fields are in the discussion, it might be that another grade of acrylic sealant needed. In the specific application field such as joints with glass substrates, or in the furniture area where joint movement might be higher, or when partial water impact sealant is needed in the kitchen and sanitary installation, a higher performance acrylic sealant will be a suitable solution to answer the challenges.
BASF offers wide range of dispersion to offer the best-in-class sealants for applicators, and one of our innovative binders for high-performance sealants is Acronal® 5036.
Acronal® 5036 is an acrylic dispersion ideal for high-performance sealants. Sealants formulated with Acronal® 5036 give good low-temperature flexibility, it is critical where has significant temperature differences throughout the year. It also allows high elastic recovery (>40%) when high movement capability (up to 20LM) is expected to be anticipated in the joinery. It has the broadest adhesion spectrum in the portfolio, including ceramics and glass.
Ceramics and glass could be applied
Using our guiding formulation for sanitary application, special formulated sealant with Acronal® 5036 will have mold resistance capability. Acronal® 5036 is free from APEO and formaldehyde which does not harm the environment.
BASF’s worldwide production footprint and technical know-how support our customers not only in sustainable supply of binders used in acrylic sealants but also provide formulation know-how and business solutions for the success in the market.
