BASF Coatings earns Shanghai Volkswagen’s Best Supplier Award

Münster/Shanghai. BASF Shanghai Coatings has received the 2006 Silver Best Supplier Award from Shanghai Volkswagen (SVW). This means that BASF Shanghai Coatings is among the 17 best suppliers of the carmaker’s total 500 suppliers.

The BASF Coatings Shanghai site was hailed for its long and successful cooperation with SVW. The car manufacturer especially appreciates its partner's high-quality products and its excellent and comprehensive service. The award also recognizes the fact that by cooperating with BASF Shanghai Coatings, SVW was able to cut costs. The introduction of the cost-per-unit model, according to which SVW pays on the basis of each perfectly finished vehicle rather than the amount of coating material used, was a particularly valuable contribution to boosting the efficiency of the production process.

“Nineteen BASF Shanghai Coatings employees work on site at our customer SVW, and each one of them is part of the team of winners,” says Xin Qin, Account Manager for Volkswagen in China, who accepted the award on behalf of his team.

At the BASF Coatings’ site in Münster, the response to the award was equally enthusiastic. Dr. Siegfried Riediger, head of Global Account Management VW Group, praised the team: “Congratulations for this outstanding success, which is the result of your excellent teamwork.”

The cooperation with SVW began exactly ten years ago, when BASF Shanghai Coatings launched its business activities. At the Shanghai site, automotive OEM coatings are produced for the Asian market in various production facilities and development labs.

From the outset of its activities, BASF Shanghai Coatings has supplied SVW with all of the coating products required for line production, including cathodic e-coat, primer, basecoat, and clearcoat. BASF Coatings Shanghai provides the finish for around 70 percent of the vehicles that leave the SVW production lines.

With its Shanghai site, BASF Coatings is an important hub of the Chinese automotive industry. At present, the staff includes over 220 employees.
