5th BASF Boron Conference in Hyderabad, India

  • Successful exchange between industry and science in applied boron chemistry

Ludwigshafen, March 11, 2009 – On March 3 and 4, the 5th BASF Boron conference took place in Hyderabad, India. About 160 visitors discussed about the great importance of boron compounds for the synthesis of active ingredients, especially for the pharmaceutical industry. At the two days meeting experts from around the world discussed current trends and new applications of boron compounds in fine chemicals synthesis.

“From lab to launch – Discover new horizons”. True to the spirit of this slogan, the conference aimed to strengthen the dialogue between science and users from industry to identify new solutions. “With this conference we have created a platform for scientific exchange in applied boron chemistry,” emphasized Dr. Ulrich Bueschges, Group Vice President of the Global Business Unit Inorganic Specialties. “This meeting gives us the opportunity to discuss questions of topical interest relating to the development of active ingredients for the pharmaceutical industry,” continued Bueschges.

Major topics on the agenda of this year’s conference include: applied boron chemistry in pharmaceutical syntheses, stereo- and regioselective reactions, cross-coupling reactions and new applications of boron chemistry. “I am proud that we once again could win highly reputable speakers from academia for the conference. Speakers included Professors Akira Suzuki of Hokkaido University, John A. Soderquist from the University of Puerto Rico and Ei-Ichi Negishi from Purdue University who addressed key-note speeches to an international audience,” stated Dr. Carsten Blettner Business Manager Inorganic Specialties Asia Pacific.

Europe, Asia and North America take turns annually at hosting this conference, which features internationally renowned panels. The 6th BASF Boron Conference will be held in Europe in 2010.
