BASF FINA Petrochemicals supports science and writing at Groves Elementary

GROVES, TX, May 3, 2012 – BASF FINA Petrochemicals Limited Partnership made a $2,772 donation to Groves Elementary to support the purchase of STAAR science and writing workbooks for students in fourth and fifth grades.  The workbooks will be used during the 2013 - 2014 school year.  State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™) has replaced the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS).

“As the world’s leading chemical company, BASF understands the importance of supporting science and education in general and this donation is a great opportunity to accomplish this goal,” said Carol Hebert, Manager of Community and Government Affairs at BASF FINA. “BASF FINA Petrochemicals is proud to assist Groves Elementary.  Our desire is for the students to use these workbooks to master STAAR program measures and achieve readiness for success in subsequent grades, college and their careers.”  

In recent years, BASF FINA has donated more than $17,000 to Groves Elementary. 

“This monetary donation will allow our campus to purchase the most current instructional materials for science and writing and replace materials that are not aligned with the increased rigor of the new state testing requirements,” said Scarlet Hammersmith, Principal of Groves Elementary. “We are always appreciative, but the timing of this donation has never been more crucial due to the financial uncertainty of school districts across the state.  Groves Elementary is grateful for the continued support of BASF.”
