Brau Beviale 2012: BASF showcases innovative solutions for beer filtration and stabilization

  • BASF’s Human Nutrition business unit presents the innovative Crosspure® filter aid
  • Newly designed trade show booth to be unveiled

At Brau Beviale 2012 in Nuremberg, Germany, November 13-15, BASF’s Human Nutrition business unit displays a range of innovation-driven solutions for beer filtration and stabilization at booth number 204 in hall 7. A newly designed booth provides the framework for the BASF presentation while signaling the successful integration of the beverage processing polymers portfolio into Think Newtrition™, the unit’s global market initiative.

With Think Newtrition™, BASF has begun a fruitful dialogue with the key players in the market, one that helps to serve and satisfy the nutritional requirements of a growing population”, said Beatus Schehl, Global Product Management Processing Polymers Beverages. “On the basis of this close cooperation with its customers, BASF uses its extensive operational, research and development expertise to tackle the key challenges in the market.”

Crosspure®: a breakthrough in beer filtration and stabilization

Brewers today face complex challenges. To manufacture value-added products that meet consumers’ needs, they must deliver beer with a first-rate taste as well as high clarity and stability, preferably in a safe, cost-effective and environmentally compatible way. At this year’s Brau Beviale, BASF’s portfolio of beverage processing polymers included the company’s latest solution for beer filtration and stabilization, created in response to the needs of today’s market and consumers. Crosspure® is an innovative synthetic polymer that ushers in a new era in beer processing, serving as a long sought-after alternative to the conventional filter aid, kieselguhr (diatomaceous earth), by providing brewers with efficient filtration and stabilization in a single step.

An eco-efficiency analysis validated by two German-based certification organizations sums up the performance attributes that make Crosspure® superior to kieselguhr, listing such benefits as virtually 100 percent waste prevention and significant reductions in energy consumption and emissions. Life cycle costs are 20 percent lower, and the health risks related to exposure while handling kieselguhr dust are eliminated. Crosspure® can be used in existing filtration lines with only minor adaptations necessary.”
