Ultra Filling Spheres™ – the ultimate next generation wrinkle corrector

Wrinkle formation is one of the today’s consumer major concerns as wrinkles and fine lines represent the most visible sign of aging. Among the several wrinkle corrective treatments which are available today, dermal fillers are still among the most popular.

Finding its inspiration for innovation from everyday consumers requirements combined with the most advanced techniques in the wrinkle filling field, BASF´s Beauty Creations – the cosmetic active ingredient business of BASF, resulting from the merger of Beauty Care Solutions and Laboratoires Sérobiologiques – has developed Ultra Filling Spheres™, the ultimate next generation Filling Spheres™, with increased technical performance for improved skin benefits.

As we age, changes occur in the cells that affect the structure of the skin tissue. In the dermis, key structural compounds of the skin matrix such as elastin and collagen as well as glycosaminoglycans, especially hyaluronic acid, are produced in lower quantities. At the surface, the epidermis becomes thinner. As a result of this depletion, the skin loses some of its integrity, flexibility and strength, giving way to the formation of wrinkles, which is one of the first visible signs of the skin’s ageing that consumers want to erase.

Ultra Filling Spheres™ – the next generation ultimate wrinkle correction

Ultra Filling Spheres™ is a new and better performing version of Filling Spheres™ – Beauty Creations‘ renown breakthrough concept in wrinkle filling – which have been especially designed to instantly fill in wrinkles and fine lines in a more efficient manner. Ultra Filling Spheres™ underlying system is based on the ability of cross-linked and dehydrated spheres to penetrate the upper layers of the epidermis and to absorb the water that evaporates from the deep dermis.

This ultimate next generation Filling Spheres™ is composed of two biopolymers: hyaluronic acid of low molecular weight (<40 kDa) and konjac, a polysaccharide of high molecular weight (> 200 kDa) with superior hygroscopic properties. Cross-linking of both components forms small spheres which after drying, are transformed into Ultra Filling Spheres™. Thanks to their high hygroscopic properties, the volume of the spheres increases rapidly in the presence of the skin’s water reserve, and work as plumping the skin from inside out which may result in smoothing out the wrinkles and fine lines at the surface of the skin.

Proven Efficacy

Their unique composition of low molecular weight hyaluronic acid and konjac glucomannan endows Ultra Filling Spheres™ with a far greater capacity to absorb water and swell than the previous versions of Filling Spheres™. In presence of water, the Ultra Filling Spheres™ exhibited a superior capability to swell than previous generation Filling Spheres™, thanks to higher hygroscopic properties of Konjac.

Ex vivo tests have demonstrated increased performances in comparison with the former generation: their water absorption capability is superior respectively 24 times in weight and 17 times in volume; in addition they were shown to exhibit a water retention capability 20% higher (in tubo gravimetric determination) as well as an enhanced thickness of the stratum corneum by 17 % (ex vivo measurement), both again in comparison with previous generation Filling Spheres™.

Comments Tony Jaillot, Marketing Global Director of Beauty Creations: ”When examining the market trend for wrinkle correction treatments, especially the facial filler category, we find out that demand for products offering this benefit is literally skyrocketing. A few years ago, BASF´s Beauty Creations was the pioneer in the development of the Filling Spheres™ technology, a concept directly inspired from this science. With this ultimate next generation Filling Spheres™, our intention was to offer increased performances for enhanced final results, in rapidity of action and efficacy. With their enhanced capability to swell and absorb water, Ultra Filling Spheres™ may help to fill in deep and superficial wrinkles while leaving a smoothed skin surface with long lasting hydration in the most efficient manner. By making consumers’ wants and needs an essential starting point for the continuous development of new products and concepts BASF’s brand Care Creations™ helps its customers to successfully serve current consumer demands and anticipate upcoming trends. Care Creations™ as well as the communication concept “Inspired by life” clearly give voice to this commitment to be at the pulse of consumers and the markets, while expressing its strengths”.
