BASF and Yuntianhua successfully verify and register greenhouse gas emissions reductions from the use of stabilized urea fertilizer
In 2023, BASF and Yunnan Yuntianhua Co., Ltd., a China-based fertilizer manufacturer, launched a pilot project in China to verify the reduction of CO2 equivalent emissions (CO2e) from the use of Yuntianhua’s stabilized urea fertilizer containing BASF's urease inhibitor Limus®. The pilot verified that Yuntianhua reduced roughly 46,584 tons of CO2e emissions by using Limus-treated fertilizer versus untreated fertilizer. This estimate is based on Yuntianhua’s sales of Limus-stabilized urea during the pilot. These results not only contribute to climate-smart agriculture initiatives in China, but they also demonstrate successful project implementation, enabling expansion opportunities globally.

BASF starts commercial operation of Black Mass plant for Battery Recycling in Schwarzheide, Germany
BASF has successfully started the commercial operation of its Black Mass plant in Schwarzheide, Germany. This state-of-the-art facility represents a significant milestone for BASF’s battery recycling business. It is one of the biggest commercial Black Mass plants in Europe, with an annual processing capacity of up to 15,000 tons of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries and production scrap. This equals roughly 40,000 electric vehicle batteries per year.

BASF starts registration for new fungicide innovation Adapzo® Active to control Asian Soybean Rust
BASF has begun the registration process for its new fungicide innovation Adapzo® Active (Flufenoxadiazam) and submitted the regulatory dossiers to the relevant authorities in Brazil and Paraguay, with a subsequent submission planned in Bolivia. This new active ingredient from BASF’s robust innovation pipeline is the industry’s first histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor. Building on BASF’s history in innovative disease control for soybeans, Adapzo Active marks a major milestone in the company’s efforts to offer farmers a much-needed novel mode of action, delivering an unprecedented level of Asian Soybean Rust (ASR) control. Pending regulatory approvals, BASF expects first market introductions of Adapzo Active-based formulations starting in 2029.

Less electro-corrosion, more color: New Ultramid® Advanced N for high-voltage connectors in electric cars
BASF is now complementing its polyphthalamide (PPA) portfolio by Ultramid® Advanced N3U42G6, a polyamide 9T with non-halogenated flame-retardant, which minimizes electro-corrosion of metal contacts in electric and electronics (E&E) parts for e-mobility. The PPA increases the safety and durability of high-voltage (HV) connectors in e.g. inverters, DC-DC converters and batteries of electric cars. Due to its high strength and stiffness over a broad temperature range, its outstanding chemical resistance and dimensional stability, the Ultramid® Advanced N grade enhances the robustness and reliability of thin-walled HV connectors meeting growing industry needs for halide-free E&E components used in warm and humid conditions. The new Ultramid® Advanced N3U42G6 is available in uncolored with UL-certified masterbatches but also as pre-colored version with high color stability for easy processing and excellent color retention after heat ageing.
