Seoul, Korea – July 13, 2021 – BASF Korea, together with Happy Alliance, a social contribution network, establish a sustainable safety net to tackle child hunger in Yesan County, South Chungcheong Province, where Korea BASF’s production site is located.
On July 12, BASF Korea signed a business agreement with Happy Alliance to run a joint campaign, “Yesan Happy Two Meals Project” in Yesan County. The agreement ceremony was held in the Yesan County office, attended by Sun-bong Hwang, Yesan County Governor, Dr. David (YoonSoon) Im, Representative Director of BASF Korea, Jin-woo Baek, CEO of Dream Habitat, and Min-young Cho, Head of Happy Alliance.
The Happy Two Meals Project aims to set up a regional cooperation system to overcome child hunger and guarantee at least two meals each day for children who cannot receive welfare.
Through this agreement, Yesan County will support about 50 children in the region who have difficulties affording enough meals due to the economic slowdown in the prolonged coronavirus pandemic and the lack of a daycare environment. As a member of Happy Alliance, BASF Korea provides supporting funds for the lunch box supporting project. In addition, a social enterprise, Dream Habitat, will play a part in making and delivering meals with continuous diet management and child health monitoring.
The project is planned to run over the next ten months. After this, Yesan County will continue supporting the children with meals, in conjunction with its existing system and the free school lunch campaign, when the partnership matures.
Since entering the Korean market in 1954, BASF Korea has been creating chemistry for a sustainable future and putting the highest value on the corporation’s social responsibility. The company has signed up with Happy Alliance to be the 100th member of the network, offering more practical help for underprivileged children. The ‘Happy Two Meals Project’ is BASF’s first social engagement activity with Happy Alliance to contribute to the mutual growth in the region and enhance the quality of life of local communities in collaboration with Yesan County.
“BASF in Korea has been running BASF Kids’ Lab for twenty years and supporting the dreams of children who will become the essential leaders of our future society. Through this program, we are happy to offer practical assistance to children in need,” said Dr. David (YoonSoon) Im, Representative Director of BASF Korea.
“We thank BASF Korea and Yesan County for cooperating and supporting the Happy Two Meals Project,” said Min-young Cho, Head of Happy Alliance. “We will take the lead in solving child hunger by leveraging the capabilities and resources of our members and local governments to generate effective results of cooperation.”
Meanwhile, the Happy Alliance is a social contribution network of enterprises, local governments, and citizens who sympathize with the child hunger issue. Yesan County has participated as the 30th local government, and approximately 104 companies and individuals hold joint campaigns to help resolve various social problems.
