BASF launches first materials showcase in Southeast Asia

  • The showcase is a collaboration with Chris Lefteri Design – a globally renowned materials specialist and design studio
  • Offers onsite consultation on material development and selection

Singapore – December 2, 2016 – BASF materials can now be seen, touched and explored in the company’s first showcase in Southeast Asia. Housed within Chris Lefteri Design’s Material Design Lab at the National Design Centre in Singapore, the showcase displays BASF’s innovative product applications including construction, industrial, transportation and consumer applications, as well as provides onsite consultation on material development and selection.

“With the opening of the BASF materials showcase, we encourage visitors to get a first-hand experience of the material solutions BASF offers. Together with material consultation services, the showcase serves as a convenient one-stop location where industrial designers, and the academic and design community can work together to draw ideas and inspiration,” said Andy Postlethwaite, Senior Vice President, Performance Materials Asia Pacific, BASF.

The materials showcase enhances BASF’s portfolio of material and design related consulting services in Asia. Through its design consultation center designfabrik® in Tokyo and Shanghai, BASF offers support in every phase of the design process, with expert advice for color, material and finishing, and assists designers in selecting materials as well as optimizing the configuration of the products.

“As a designer, I am always thinking about my next design, particularly how to place materials at the heart of the design process. Also, how materials can enable designs and functionality beyond traditional usage and properties. The partnership with BASF has created great synergy as we explored these topics based on BASF’s technical and engineering expertise,” said Chris Lefteri, Head of Chris Lefteri Design, an internationally recognized leading authority on the application of materials in design. “The BASF materials showcase also boosts the capabilities of our Material Design Lab, which we introduced to be the go-to materials resource and collaboration platform. It also stimulates new levels of material-centric innovation.”

Admission to the Material Lab is free. Advanced booking is required for consultation.
