BASF Kids’ Lab continues to educate young minds in Singapore

  • About 200 children learned about insulation to tackle issues of food spoilage and waste
  • BASF supports the Community Action Network (CAN) Program under the People’s Association Singapore and collaborates with student volunteers from the National University of Singapore

Singapore – June 6, 2025 – BASF Kids’ Lab, an interactive hands-on chemistry education program, was successfully held at the Kolam Ayer Community Club from June 2 to 3, 2025. Organized as part of the CAN initiative under the People’s Association's We Care project, BASF Kids’ Lab provided education to about 200 children, including 38 participants from CAN this year.

This marks the second consecutive year that BASF in Singapore has participated in CAN, which aims to uplift children from lower-income families through collaborations with corporate entities and the community.

With the enthusiastic support of dedicated employee volunteers from BASF in Singapore and 29 student volunteers led by the Food Science and Technology Society, National University of Singapore, primary school-going children participated in BASF Kids’ Lab. They learned the science of insulation and freezing through interactive experiments. The issue of tackling food spoilage and waste due to inadequate refrigeration and types of insulation materials that support better insulation were covered, and the children explored how chemistry offers solutions to real-life challenges.

"I like doing the experiments. It’s fun and interactive,” a young participant shared.

BASF Kids’ Lab is a global BASF initiative held in Singapore since 2003. It provides children aged 7 to 12 years old the opportunity to explore science and chemistry through interactive experiments. The program aims to raise awareness of how chemistry can contribute to sustainability among children in Singapore, aligning with the Singapore Green Plan and Forward Singapore Roadmap, and demonstrating a commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), particularly in promoting quality education and sustainable practices.
