BASF spray foam helps Liberty Manor keep a safe roof over veterans’ heads

HOUSTON, TX September 29, 2011 – BASF today announced a feature program will air on Lifetime Television Network, sharing the story of how BASF Spray Foam is helping homeless veterans stay safe against hurricanes.  Airing Sept. 30 and Oct. 21 on “Designing Spaces”, viewers will learn how BASF proudly donated the time and materials to help Tampa, Florida’s Liberty Manor for homeless veterans strengthen its roof against hurricane-force winds and cut utility bills.

“BASF is honored to help support Liberty Manor’s mission,” said Michael Sievers, Business Manager, Spray Systems, BASF. “And we are proud to provide homeowners of new and existing homes a roofing application that protects against high winds and high energy bills without breaking the bank.”

Approved by Miami-Dade County Building and Neighborhood Compliance (BNC) Department as a wind mitigation application, BASF qualified installers sprayed three inches of BASF’s COMFORT FOAM® closed-cell spray foam under the home’s roof deck, increasing roof strength by more than 200 percent.

BASF understands the value of providing materials that protect homes during catastrophic weather events including storms, hurricanes and high winds. Particularly vulnerable to these conditions are roofs. If a roof is not properly secured to the rest of a home, the likelihood of structural failure is much greater than if reinforced with hurricane damage mitigation tools.[1]The BASF spray foam application seals the roof to the walls, giving severe wind and rain no room to enter and weaken a structure.

“A roof is your first and often your last line of defense in a high-wind event, said Leslie Chapman-Henderson, CEO of the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH).
