BASF Canada employees participate in United Way ‘Day of Caring’ event
MISSISSAUGA, ON, August 13, 2012 -- Employees from BASF Canada’s Windsor site recently volunteered their time to help paint the inside of the Goodfellows warehouse in Windsor, ON. This facility is used to store food items for the organization’s school breakfast programs and also serves as a distribution site for food baskets at Christmas.
This event was part of the United Way’s “Day of Caring” program, which brings community-based organizations together with local businesses, corporations, unions and other groups to work on one-day projects that benefit their community. In addition, these events help raise awareness for the importance of volunteerism in Windsor.
“BASF’s Windsor Paint Plant has had a long standing relationship with the Windsor Goodfellows, and when they reached out to us for help, we immediately said yes,” said Guido Broche, Site Director, BASF Windsor Site. “BASF employees eagerly volunteered to assist Goodfellows by giving their warehouse a ‘facelift’ with a new coat of paint. We are proud to help this organization continue its service in our community.”
By painting the warehouse, BASF employees provided a service which Goodfellows would have otherwise needed to pay a hired contractor for.
“The volunteers did an excellent job painting,” said Bill Cowell, Warehouse Manager, Windsor Goodfellows. “I am overwhelmed by their generosity and I have no words to express my gratitude other than to say ‘thank you’.”
BASF Canada’s Windsor production site produces original equipment manufacturer (OEM) automotive paints including basecoats, primers and automotive component coatings. A Responsible Care® site, the facility’s employees are committed to serving the community in which it operates and supporting local organizations such as Windsor Goodfellows.
Windsor Goodfellows is a not-for-profit organization that provides a year-round food bank and support services for local schools.
