BASF presents extensive portfolio of pharmaceutical ingredients and services at AAPS
FLORHAM PARK, NJ, October 4, 2012 – BASF will feature its broad range of pharmaceutical ingredients at the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Annual Meeting, Oct. 14 to 18 at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Visitors to BASF booth 2015 will be able to learn about solutions delivered through six needs-based market platforms. Different solutions will be presented each day – the entire booth will change on a daily basis.
Monday, Oct. 15
Coatings platform - BASF’s Kollicoat® portfolio offers a comprehensive range of coating polymers for instant release, protective/taste masking, and colored coatings for sustained and enteric coatings.
Orally disintegrating tablets (ODT) platform - BASF’s innovative excipients make it easier to take medication and increase compliance among at-risk groups because they disintegrate quickly and mask taste. The portfolio includes:
· Kollicoat® Smartseal 30 D, BASF’s latest innovation, which features outstanding taste-masking and ensures quick release of active ingredients in the stomach.
· Ludiflash®, a co-processed excipient formulation designed to achieve quick disintegration with outstanding, creamy mouth feel.
· Kollidon® CL-F and Kollidon CL-SF, which deliver necessary disintegration speed and provide excellent mouth feel.
Tuesday, Oct. 16
Solubilization platform - With an extensive product portfolio including Kollidon® VA 64, Soluplus®, Kolliphor® solubilizers and Kollisolv® co-solvents, BASF offers a versatile toolbox to address solubilization challenges for poorly water soluble and poorly bioavailable actives. This includes excipients that are specifically designed for preparing solid solutions and solid dispersions via hot melt extrusion and spray drying technologies, as well as lipid based solubilizers.
Soft gel platform - BASF solutions for soft gel applications include:
· Active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) such as Tretinoin, Isotretinoin, Ibuprofen, and highly concentrated Omega-3 fatty acids.
· Excipients including Kollidon® 12 and 17 PF crystal modifiers/inhibitors , Kollicoat® enteric and moisture barrier coatings , Kolliphor® liquid fill and solubilizers and Kollisolv® solvents and lubricants, such as high purity polyethylene glycols (PEGs) and high purity glycerol.

Taste masking platform - Taste masking agents and stabilizers provide superior protection for tablets, pellet and particle formulations. Kollicoat® Smartseal 30 D is the first water-based dispersion for taste masking and moisture barrier applications. It was developed to simplify and accelerate aqueous film coating operations, and opens new doors for formulating tablet, pellet, and particle coatings.
Kollicoat Smartseal 30 D is highly impermeable to water vapor, helping preserve the potency of sensitive active ingredients. The polymer is stable in saliva and specifically soluble in gastric juice. This ensures effective protection from unpleasant taste in the patient’s mouth and rapid release and onset of active ingredient action in the stomach.
Taste masking approaches for liquid formulations include Kolliphor® P 188, Poloxamer 188, Kolliphor RH40 and Kollidon® CL. BASF excipients provide solutions for taste masking bitter drug actives in solid oral and liquid dosage formulations. Target applications are in pediatric, geriatric and veterinary medicines.
Dermatology platform - BASF’s growing portfolio of dermatology and veterinary applications include sensory, mildness and APIs for acne treatment. BASF offers Kollicream® emollients , Kolliwax® consistency factors , Kollisolv® solvents, and Kolliphor® emulsifiers and solubilizers .
AAPS is an industry event that draws more than 10,000 attendees from the pharmaceutical industry with a focus on research and development.
