BASF’s Wyandotte facility ‘goes pink’ for breast cancer awareness

WYANDOTTE, MI, October 8, 2012 -- BASF’s Wyandotte facility is “going pink” as site employees join together to support Breast Cancer Awareness.

On Monday, Oct. 1, 100 trees and light posts on BASF’s property along Biddle Avenue were decorated with pink ribbons as part of the facility’s “Tie a PINK Ribbon” campaign.

“The trees represent life and the pink ribbons represent action, awareness, survivorship, and the memory of those who have lost their battle against breast cancer,” said Greg Pflum, Vice President and General Manager, Midwest Hub for BASF Corporation. “The pink ribbon is one of the most recognized symbols in the world. Emphasis on awareness building and early diagnosis will significantly enhance the effectiveness of treatment. Our Tie a PINK Ribbon campaign will go throughout the month of October, as it spreads the powerful message that early detection can save lives.”

In addition to BASF’s Tie A PINK Ribbon campaign, employees will show their support by raising funds for the American Cancer Society through an employee cook-off contest on Oct. 10 and participating in the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk on Oct. 13 in Detroit.

BASF’s Wyandotte site spans more than 2,100 acres and hosts multiple business groups, functions and manufacturing plants which produce a variety of urethane and specialty plastics products.  The site employs about 1,200 full-time and contract employees.
