BASF employees and families celebrate a week of safety events
Ethan Fuller, son of BASF employee, Catherine Fuller, submitted the winning poster, which featured a baseball diamond and safety precautions that conveyed BASF’s Safety Week theme, “Safety Starts with Me.”
“The safety of our employees is the most important priority at our site and the concept of safety extends to the homes and health of our employees and their families,” said Dusty Allen, BASF Site Manager. “The poster contest was an opportunity for our employees to help their children and grandchildren understand the importance of safety for themselves and for their family members when they are working at BASF.”
The winning poster was selected from among 12 entries by employees’ children and grandchildren up to age 18. The posters were judged by employees at the company’s East President Street site in Savannah based on originality, thought and representation of the theme.
“By focusing on personal safety and awareness, and extending that awareness to our families, we support the safety of our operations and help spread the message within the community,” said Allen.
BASF’s Safety Week began with a Health Fair on June 26 at the BASF site in partnership with Memorial Health. Health information and screenings available for employees included:
- Cholesterol, blood pressure, and diabetes checks,
- Skin cancer checks,
- Nutrition services and weight management,
- Strength testing and ergonomic advice with flexibility stretches,
- Heart and lung health, including smoking cessation,
- Stroke information,
- Safe Kids Savannah, and
- Blood donations
Other booths and activities included:
- Eye exams,
- Fitness (BASF contributes to employee and family gym memberships),
- Boot truck (BASF provides employees vouchers for work boots), and
- Ice cream truck serving low-fat and low-sugar options.
The Health Fair featured gift bags and door prizes that focused on tension relief, including packages for fishing, massage, camping, golf and gift cards.
“Each year BASF sponsors a dedicated week for safety awareness, but we don’t stop there,” Allen said. “Our fundamental belief is that the health and safety of people comes before everything else – every day.”
