BASF teams up with the New York Yankees to “Knock Waste Out of the Park”
FLORHAM PARK, NJ, December 26, 2014 — BASF Corporation teamed up with the New York Yankees to knock waste out of the park by tackling zero waste at the 2014 Pinstripe Bowl, when the Pennsylvania State University Nittany Lions will face the Boston College Eagles at Yankee Stadium on Dec. 27 at 3:00 p.m.
At the end of the 2014 Major League Baseball (MLB) and college bowl seasons and during the 2015 MLB season, BASF will sponsor zero waste at Yankee Stadium inspiring fans to strike out landfills at Yankee Stadium and at home. Well on their way to batting a 1,000 in their zero-waste program, the New York Yankees currently divert more than 80 percent of their waste stream away from landfills into composting and recycling centers.
“At BASF, we believe that chemistry is the enabler for a sustainable future. We are excited about our partnership with the New York Yankees and the opportunity to show the many contributions our chemistries makes to eliminate waste and boost efficiency,” said Charlene Wall-Warren, Director of Sustainability at BASF. “When people visit the stadium, they can see first-hand how BASF makes the products they use more sustainable,” Wall-Warren continued.
Fans attending events at Yankees Stadium can see the ways BASF chemistry and innovations make every day products—from trash bags to utensils—fully compostable to drastically reduce the amount of landfilled waste generated in the stadium. Fans are also treated to a sustainability fact of the game highlighting the many initiatives that the Yankees have undertaken to promote the kind of environmentally-conscious practices that drastically increase energy efficiency and reduce the amount of waste generated at the game.
