BASF employees make a difference at United Way Day of Caring

Employees work side-by-side with individuals served by the Educational Center for Independence to complete projects

MCINTOSH, AL, April 28, 2015 – Employees at BASF’s McIntosh, Alabama site once again participated in United Way’s annual Day of Caring. Employee volunteers dedicated a full day to work on projects at the Educational Center for Independence (ECI). The volunteers completed a makeover of one of the centers classrooms where they installed a new tile floor, painted all walls and installed a new door in the entry-way. Projects completed at the centers group home included the installing a new metal gate at the swimming pool entrance and a new basketball hoop and backboard. The final project was painting walls in the centers pantry.

“BASF is pleased to partner with the Educational Center for Independence to complete projects the agency doesn’t have the time, money, staff, or additional resources to address,” said George Vann, Vice President of the BASF site in McIntosh. “ECI addresses some of the most critical needs facing our community. It was a pleasure to work side-by-side with the individuals that will benefit from the projects our employees completed. The appreciation expressed by the individuals served and by ECI staff is an experience our employees will always remember.”

ECI provides training for adults with developmental disabilities in a day care setting and supervised alternative living arrangements in Washington County, Alabama.

“Day of Caring was a great success and we appreciate the BASF employees who volunteered their time,” said Denise Taylor, Executive Director of the ECI.  “Some of our individuals worked along with BASF employees to complete the projects and it gave them the ability to be part of the process and the accomplishments.”
