BASF donates 150 backpacks with school supplies to Brazosport Independent School District

Donation commemorates BASF's global anniversary

FREEPORT, TX, August 12, 2015 - The BASF site in Freeport, Texas, is celebrating the company’s 150th global anniversary by donating 150 backpacks full of school supplies to Brazosport Independent School District (BISD).

“We have students at every campus in BISD who can use these school supplies,” said Denise Babb, director of Federal, State and Early Childhood programs for BISD. “It is great that we have 150 students who will not have to start school without the proper items needed to be successful in the classroom. We are extremely grateful to BASF for this generous donation.”

This gift is the third of four planned community donations from BASF during 2015 to commemorate the company’s anniversary. In May, the Freeport site donated more than 2,000 pounds of food to area food pantries — enough to feed 150 families of four for a day. In January, BASF donated 150 diapers to the first 150 babies born at Brazosport Regional Hospital.

“Without the support of the people who work and live in the local community, BASF would not be able to operate as successfully as we have over the years,” said Chris Witte, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the BASF Site in Freeport. “The anniversary themed donations are our way of saying ‘thank you’ while continuing our tradition of community support. They also give us the chance to highlight the fact that many convenient everyday products are made with the chemistry that we create right here in Freeport.”

The BASF Freeport Site manufactures chemicals that are used in school supplies like the ones donated, including: ink for books and pens, adhesives for glues and sticky notes, and nylon-6 for plastic boxes and folders.
