BASF hosts technology day for Detroit high school students
WYANDOTTE, MI, June 20, 2018 – BASF recently welcomed Detroit high school students for a technology day and career panel discussion at the Wyandotte site. The event was hosted by employees from the company’s African American Employee Group and the Advanced Materials Research North America Group.
More than 60 students in 10th and 11th grade from the University Preparatory Science and Math High School viewed demonstrations of innovative processes and technologies at BASF. They also learned what skills are needed to achieve success in these jobs and were offered a tour of the laboratory. Students then met with a panel of BASF employees to talk about their occupations and experiences in the fields of science and business.
The students posed questions about choosing a college and major, transitioning into a new environment and selecting a career path. Panelists offered their insights on preparing for college, staying focused and achieving progress toward their goals. Students were encouraged to explore a variety of professional opportunities and to build their professional networks.
“BASF’s goal is to show students the careers our industry has to offer with a hands-on, practical experience,” said Michael Pcolinski, Vice President, Advanced Materials Research North America. “By providing this unique experience for students in our community, we can contribute to helping them prepare for future success in their professional lives.”
