BASF honored with the 2020 Safer Choice Partner of the Year award

FLORHAM PARK, NJ, September 28, 2019 – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named BASF a 2020 Safer Choice Partner of the Year Award winner for outstanding achievement in the design, manufacture, selection and use of products with safer chemicals which furthers outstanding or innovative source reduction. The Safer Choice program helps consumers and purchasers for facilities, such as schools and office buildings, find products that perform and are safer for human health and the environment. BASF is among this year’s 18 Safer Choice Partner of the Year Award winners and is recognized for the second consecutive year.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has made the Safer Choice standards more relevant than ever,” said Daniele Piergentili, Vice President, Home and Personal Care, BASF North America. “Consumers are looking for cleaning products that perform well while being safe. As a leader in sustainable ingredients for the Home & Personal Care industry, BASF provides a large portfolio of solutions that are effective and offer a strong biodegradability and sustainability profile.”

BASF’s Safer Choice portfolio includes chelating agents, processing aids and additives, surfactants, polymers, plasticizers and solvents that are used across applications for home care as well as industrial and institutional cleaning solutions.

To qualify for the Safer Choice label, a product must meet EPA’s Safer Choice Standard, which includes stringent human and environmental health criteria. About 500 formulators and manufacturers engage in the Safer Choice program and produce more than 2,000 Safer Choice-certified products for both retail and institutional customers.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the EPA presented the 2020 Safer Choice Partner of the Year Awards in a virtual online meeting on September 24, 2020. More information on the 2020 Safer Choice Partner of the Year award winners can be found at: https://www.epa.gov/saferchoice/2020-safer-choice-partner-year-award-winners-profiles.
