BASF scientists receive awards from the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers

WYANDOTTE, MI, October 16, 2020 – Dr. Mahmud Hussain and Dr. Zhongliang Zhu of BASF were honored by the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) for their professional and technical contributions to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Hussain joined BASF in 2017 and is a Senior Scientist in the Amphilphilic Systems Research group based in Wyandotte, Michigan, where he leads a team of associate scientists and technicians. He received the Technical/Research/Business Achievement Award that honors individuals who contribute to the development of a product that is a substantial achievement in the field.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. faced a critical shortage of hand sanitizer. In just four days during the crisis, Dr. Hussain and his team developed HandClasp®, a high-quality FDA approved hand sanitizer BASF donated to local hospitals and various states,” said Benedikt Raether, Vice President, Amphiphilic Systems Research at BASF.

Zhu joined BASF’s North America Coatings division in 2016 and is a Senior Scientist based in Southfield, Michigan supporting both Research & Development and manufacturing activities in automotive coatings. He received the Professional Achievement Award for his significant discoveries, important advances and leadership of large initiatives.

“Dr. Zhu has contributed tremendously to our technological advancements by designing and developing unique materials used in BASF products,” said Medha Patel, Information Systems Project Coordinator at BASF.
