Applications

ecovio® – compostable polymers with biobased content
Compostable and recyclable
With ecovio, BASF is offering an ecological innovation with a fully compostable new polymer. Under commercial compost conditions, ecovio degrades within weeks, leaving no residues. It is composed of our proprietary ecoflex® and PLA and consists of more than 70% renewables.
ecovio® is a high-quality and versatile bioplastic of BASF. The primary advantage is that it is certified compostable with bio-based content. It also enables the proportion of recycled paper fibers in food service packaging to be increased. ecovio has been developed for coating paper and paper board. Applied to both paper and board packaging elements by coextrusion, this unique product enables the manufacture of 100% wax and fluorocarbon free food service items, such as wrappers and clamshells, which can be composted. ecovio coating allows you to manufacture in conformity with food safety and environment friendly standards.
ecovio® provides barrier protection to:
  • Oil and grease
  • Aroma
  • Mineral Oil
ecovio is:
  • a finished compound
  • certified compostable worldwide
  • has a variable biobased content
  • is printable and weldable
Barrier performance
