New tool by BASF Coatings helps body shops improve their ecological and economic performance

  • Eco Impact Assessment tool utilizes a measurement approach based on life cycle assessment
  • Body shops can access reliable data and analytics to drive sustainability topics
  • The tool will be implemented in Europe under the Refinity® brand

BASF Coatings introduces an innovative Eco Impact Assessment tool under its Refinity brand, a digital business management platform designed to empower automotive refinish partners and customers. The new tool enables body shops to measure performance across ecological, economic, and social aspects. It provides holistic assessments of all relevant material flows in a body shop, including spraying and drying processes, product usage, waste management and fleet operations. The Eco Impact Assessment tool uses reliable data and real-life measurements from the body shops, helping them increase their profitability and improve their ecological footprint at the same time.

“The assessment results in a corporate carbon footprint and allows for benchmarking with other body shops. By comparing results, the tool helps define measures to improve performance and reduce environmental impact,” said Dr. Rahel Reichmann, Head of Sustainability Automotive Refinish Coatings at BASF.

“We are excited to start introducing the Eco Impact Assessment tool to our customers in Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, and Netherlands. As the demand for sustainable accident repairs continues to rise, body shops can set themselves apart from the competition not only through using sustainable products, but also through collaboration and a commitment to sustainability with our consultancy expert teams at BASF Coatings,” said Roar Solberg, Vice President EMEA Automotive Refinish Coatings at BASF.

By using the Eco Impact Assessment tool on the Refinity platform, body shops can contribute to sustainability and create awareness for efforts to reduce the environmental impact within the automotive refinish industry. With this tool, BASF Coatings underlines its pledge to support its customers in becoming more sustainable. The company also has a refinish basecoat line with the lowest VOC content in its portfolio.
