BASF launches Keropur® Gasoline Performance Additive Series certified for new U.S. TOP TIER+™ Standard
- Certified for TOP TIER+TM standard and compliant with EPA LAC and CARB Requirements
- Designed to protect engines, improve fuel economy, and support cleaner combustion across all injection systems
- New Keropur AP 225-20 formulation commercially available well ahead of January 2027
BASF announces the upcoming launch of its next-generation Keropur Gasoline Performance Additive Series, engineered to meet and exceed the newly revised U.S. TOP TIER+™ detergent gasoline standard and deliver superior performance against EPA’s Lowest Additive Concentration (LAC) requirements. The product is also expected to be approved by CARB (California Air Resources Board). The new Keropur AP 225-20 formulation will be commercially available well ahead of the mandatory implementation deadline of January 2027, ensuring customers have ample time to transition smoothly.
The TOP TIER+™ standard, introduced by leading OEMs to address the evolving needs of modern engine technologies – particularly Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines – includes rigorous new testing protocols. These protocols evaluate injector deposit control and protection against stochastic pre-ignition (SPI), both critical for maintaining optimal engine performance and reducing emissions. BASF’s Keropur AP 225-20 has successfully passed all required tests and is undergoing final optimization. The additive is formulated with EPA-registered components and features a streamlined composition. Keropur is designed to protect engines, improve fuel economy, and support cleaner combustion across all injection systems.
“Keropur AP 225-20 reflects BASF’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and customer success,” said Christian Forster, Business Director Formulations at BASF. “By delivering a product that meets and exceeds the stringent requirements of TOP TIER+™ and EPA LAC we’re helping our customers stay ahead of regulatory changes while reducing environmental impact”.
BASF’s rollout plan includes notifying customers of final product specifications in Q4 2025, supporting in developing terminal transition plans, and commencing deliveries in the first half of 2026. The company is also investing in infrastructure upgrades at its manufacturing sites to support the new additive series.
