Local community enjoys summer festival at BASF’s Totsuka site in Yokohama, Japan
Tokyo, Japan – July 30, 2018 – BASF’s annual summer program brought joy to the neighborhood community on July 27 at the company’s Totsuka site in Yokohama, Japan. BASF produces and develops automotive coatings at this site. This year, the 43rd Summer Festival attracted more than 1,600 local residents, who took part in various activities and live performances. BASF Kids’ Lab, as one of the company’s signature events, was held as part of the Summer Festival to promote the joy of research and scientific discovery to children. About 130 children took part in the “Paper Chromatography” experiment, guided by BASF employee volunteers. Children observed rings of various colors being drawn out of the ink from a felt-tipped pen and appearing on the paper. This chromatographic separation process ignited the interest of the children as they learned to identify individual constituent components contained in the ink.
