BASF donates $35,000 to University of Houston
HOUSTON, TX, May 29, 2012 -- BASF has donated $35,000 to the Cullen College of Engineering at the University of Houston in support of the school’s Program for Mastery in Engineering Studies (PROMES).
The program is designed to provide academic, social, and financial opportunities and support for engineering students with diverse backgrounds, with an emphasis on helping students to be successful during their first year in college. PROMES provides academic monitoring, tutoring, general orientation, and where applicable, career and personal counseling in an informal setting for the new students.
“BASF creates chemistry for a sustainable future, which includes helping students to be successful,” said Heidi S. Alderman, Senior Vice President, Petrochemicals, for BASF in North America. “By supporting programs such as PROMES, we are encouraging students to master the engineering skills that will help drive future innovation in high technology careers.”
Dr. Kathy Zerda, Director for the Program for Mastery in Engineering Studies at the University of Houston, said, “We are very grateful for the strong support that BASF has provided to our student success programming through this donation and through our ongoing relationship. The diverse community of engineering undergraduates who participate in PROMES represent the technical workforce of the future, and we are excited to have BASF as a partner in creating that future!”
