BASF collaborates with local first responders for annual Global Safety Day and site tour

  • Chattanooga sites continue 27 years of zero lost time incidents

CHATTANOOGA, TN, December 16, 2021 — BASF recently hosted local first responders from the Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD), Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) and the Riverpark Ranger station as part of the company’s Global Safety Day. The events, which included annual inspections and an educational site tour, served to review safety policies and procedures to ensure BASF personnel and emergency agencies are prepared to safely and quickly address unexpected situations that may occur.

“While BASF’s plants employ a wide variety of checks and balances to maintain a safe environment, it’s very important for us to sustain an active relationship with BASF,” said Robert Thompson, captain of the CFD’s special operations division. “That way, we are prepared to effectively and efficiently handle the unlikely event of an emergency.”

With safety as a top priority, BASF’s Chattanooga locations have achieved 27 years with zero lost time incidents. Global Safety Day is part of BASF’s ongoing commitment to keep the community safe, ensure excellent working conditions and maintain clear communication with local first responders.

Additionally, BASF continued their holiday tradition of extending a $1,000 donation to both the CPD and CFD. BASF employees received fire blankets and smoke detectors to increase safety in their own homes as well.

“I’m thankful to lead such a skilled, safety-minded team,” said Rob Gagliano, Site Director at BASF’s Chattanooga facility. “Due to their diligence and care, it is rare for any issues to arise at the site. However, it is still important to review emergency procedures with first responders in case we ever need their assistance.”
