Better sleep with smart technology enabled by BASF’s CosyPUR in Backrobo Wellness’ latest bedding solutions

  • Innovative polyurethane foam provides customized comfort

Shanghai, China – September 25, 2021 – Backrobo Wellness (BackRobo) has introduced BASF’s CosyPUR – an innovative, high-performance polyurethane (PU) foam - in the mattress topper of its latest suite of smart bedding solutions. The open-celled structure of the foam, which enables air to pass through the material and in the process dissipates body heat, results in a more breathable and comfortable experience than higher density visco elastic foams.

CosyPUR further enables Backrobo’s smart technology by automatically adjusting to body weight and temperature when movement is detected - it gently ‘fills in’ and reshapes itself to the new sleeping posture. Backrobo’s smart technology - a health sensor - collects body pressure distribution data in real-time, independently recognizes body shapes and sleep positions, and calculates the optimal pressure distribution. The mattress then makes autonomous adjustments in mattress height and firmness for changing sleeping positions to ensure that the body stays properly aligned and supported during sleep. The dynamic properties of CosyPUR – which is directly inserted into the mattress without the need for additional moving parts - make it the ideal material solution for changes in Backrobo’s mattress firmness setting.

“We started with the dream of helping individuals sleep better, and innovation has constantly been key to helping us achieve this. Extensive research and the best quality raw materials have always been at the core of Backrobo. BASF has played a prominent role in helping us achieve this with its innovative material CosyPUR that not only enhances the technology but also fulfills the fundamentals of ensuring good posture during sleep,” said Tiger Han, Chairman, Backrobo Wellness.

Backrobo is committed to improving lives and health through better sleep and building on the success of the Health Cloud technology introduced in 2019. The Backrobo product portfolio provides consumers with airbag massage relaxation, constant temperature control, snoring intervention, sleep detection, and mattress comfort. Its latest bedding solution can also monitor breathing, heart rate, HRD, sleep stage, and determine falling asleep and awakening. This allows BackRobo to provide comprehensive healthy sleep services from smart hardware to software monitoring to cloud data analysis to provide better sleep quality.

“Consumers are increasingly beginning to see mattresses as an investment in their health and well-being. With more individuals staying and working from home, the mattress industry is booming as consumers re-evaluate their living space in tandem with a ‘new normal’ lifestyle – and we believe the demand for better mattresses will continue with evolving remote work policies. Manufacturers such as Backrobo are accordingly responding to the demand with innovation and better materials. This has been the heart of our collaboration with Backrobo,” said Minli Zhao, Vice President, Consumer Industry, Performance Materials Asia Pacific, BASF.

Sleep deprivation is recognized as a population health issue by the clinical community. More than 300 million Chinese people have sleep disorders in 2021, and the incidence of adult insomnia is as high as 38.2%. Faced with sleep problems, 40.36% of Chinese consumers will choose to buy sleep aid products. (Source: Baidu)
