Anke Schmidt assumes responsibility for Communications & Government Relations at BASF

  • Elisabeth Schick hands over management of the department after seven years
  • Anke Schmidt assumes new position effective July 1, 2016

Effective July 1, 2016, Anke Schmidt (46), Senior Vice President Global Talent Management, will assume responsibility for the Communications & Government Relations department at BASF. She succeeds Elisabeth Schick (49) and will report to the chairman of the Board of Executive Directors in this function. Schick is leaving the company at her own request.

Anke Schmidt feels as much at home in the area of human resources as she does in communications. She studied romance studies, business and politics in Hamburg and Nantes, France, before joining BASF as a communications trainee in 1996. Schmidt subsequently held a number of positions at BASF in Germany and abroad – for example head of Corporate Communications Asia Pacific and head of the global HR project Employee Development. In 2013, she was appointed head of the Global Talent Management department within BASF’s Human Resources division.

Schick has been responsible for Communications & Government Relations since January 2009 after the merging of the Government Relations and Corporate Communications departments. Schick, who studied Japanese and started as a communications trainee at BASF in 1993, held a number of leadership positions, for example in human resources, at BASF Japan and at BASF’s IT subsidiary. From 2002 until 2008 she was head of Corporate Communications Europe.

Schick helped initiate many visible changes at BASF: Examples include the establishment of a Visitor Center at the BASF site in Ludwigshafen in 2007 and the introduction of the corporate claim “BASF – We create chemistry.” Schick was also instrumental in driving activities in the areas of moving images and social media. She played a key role in the development of a TV format for BASF (now called BASF.inside) that is broadcast on the regional RNF channel. Most recently, Schick was responsible for the company’s global anniversary program “150 years of BASF.”
